The teaching takes place at the Spanish stairs in building 210
- Beginner: Tuesdays 17:15-18:45
- Intermediate: Tuesdays 19:00-20:30
Belly dancing derives from an ancient folk dance that has been part of the local culture throughout North Africa and the Middle East. It became famous through the Ottomans as it was a frequent pastime of the women of the harem.
The fact that belly dancing is so old has resulted in numerous sub-styles so diverse that there's a style for every taste. What makes belly dancing so interesting to many is that it allows people to express themselves freely, without having to co-operate with a partner; the dancer alone is the one who gets to decide the moves by allowing the music to guide them.
If you are interested in communicating with your inner self and getting to know foreign cultures, the belly dancing classes are the place to be. The two most well-known and recognizable styles, the Turkish and the Egyptian, will be taught. The course addresses to mostly beginners, but all levels are welcome. Make friends, use muscles you didn't know you had and have fun!
