Swing was born back in the late 1920s with the original swing dance being the Lindy hop from Harlem, New York. The Lindy hop builds upon many different dances preceding it among which are jazz and Charleston and the dance has evolved along with the jazz music of that time. As the music in the 50s and 60s further evolved, styles like jive and rock’n’roll replaced the original swing dances as well as the modern jitterbug. The original swing dances were revived in the 1980s and 1990s and are today widely popular. The style in general can be said to be wild and energetic with some dances introducing acrobatic lifts and jumps.
